Helen Dixon

Espejo para desenredar sombras

...............................................para los enredos
...............................................del tío Pablo.

¿Quién soy?

Soledad profunda como la sombra
Enterrada a la orilla de una lámpara
Pensando, triste, alegre, triste,
Mientras tu alma interminable
Ronda.

Soy esas mismas olas

Presencia familiar y ajena,
De bruces de noche
Del molinero taciturno.
Lejos de tu ciudad, soy bruja,
Soy mi propia brújula.

Mis esperanzas fueron sombras
Para ahogar los lamentos
En medio de las brumas
Que entierran lámparas,
Desvanecen imágenes
Allá arriba en el campanario
Suelto mi pájaro, pensando
Más lejos que nadie, lejos
De ti también.

Quien soy, pensando en profunda soledad.
Desenredando sombras.

Mirror for untangling shadows

..........................................for the tangles
..........................................of uncle Pablo.

Who am I?

Solitude deep as a shadow
Buried at the edge of lamplight
Thinking, sad, vivid, sad,
While your interminable soul
Stalks.

I am these same waves
That hour upon hour
Seek their earthly roots
In the substance of your body,
Making the knot naked
Untangling yours.

The wind sings to me, counts my hours
By chance, brings me echoes of fire, of passion
And nostalgia that harks from no-one.
Wounded by curls of wood, your ringlets
I dance my burning soul.

My trees are on fire, my roots flame, throw sparks,
Burning again, they give light
To a sad forest, with the solitary flame
Of your cross.

Far away I am, at the blue hour
I return to the immense fan of open sea
Like lightening rod, ray of light,
I, woman, was there, those were my waters.

Overflowing, violent, stretched down from the sky
In an ocean of solitude, I shout my fury
In the sea’s breath mi madness runs free
With the polished stones that blow by blow
Exhaust their rough screams for life.
That life from long before, before no-one, once more mine,
I walk at length there, thinking of her.

Strange, I am no more this thing,
Familiar and exiled presence
Face down upon the lips of night
Like some melancholy miller.
Far from your city I am this sorceress,
Drinking from my own source.

My hopes were shadows
To drown laments
Among the mists
Where lamps are buried,
Images fade
Up there in the bell tower
My bird takes flight, as I think
Beyond anyone, beyond
You as well.

Who I am, my thought in deepest solitude.
Untangling shadows.

Pero por más que uno sufra
un rigor que lo atormente,
no debe bajar la frente
nunca por ningún motivo.
El álamo es más altivo
y gime constantemente.
